There is nothing new about a child with autism having difficulty forming relationships unless you are not aware that the child is autistic. A number of parents make the horrible error of trying to force it on the child, but this is totally counterproductive. Instead, you have to take a lot more time to get to understand what are the things that make the child more comfortable and easy to be around. That is what you do if you need to see positive change, and you must keep it that way for years, if need be, until you get positive response.
Certain mental illnesses affect the development of children, some in more ways than one. Some seem to impair their ability or desire to make friends, some even the ability to communicate. Some start right from birth, and others seem to be developed as the children grow up. Most of them are classified under the autistic spectrum, and those that do not fall in that category get to be treated as outliers.
There is a special combination of symptoms that add up to autism. Individually, any number of children all over the world suffer many of the symptoms, and it is easy to start jumping to such conclusions. When several of these symptoms are combined and severe, then it could be autism, but when they are not, it could be anything else. Advocate to get a comprehensive test so that you get a proper diagnosis.
When you suffer from schizophrenia, you could take medication to suppress the worst of the ailment; but with autism, you don’t get so lucky. To begin with, you would have to have been very young at the time it started, perhaps an infant, so that you could never have had any control over it. The bad part is that autism does not leave you again for life it stays with you forever. But the good part is that it can be somewhat managed.
