Autism is only one of the five PDDs the Pervasive Developmental Disorders. Others are the Rett syndrome, caused by certain gene mutations and found only in girls; childhood disintegrative disorder or Heller s syndrome, the next on the same spectrum of ills, lacks any known cause or cure; while Asperger syndrome and pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified, PDD-NOS, are the other two.
