Several car and other vehicle insurance policies are still sold on an annual basis. Although this meets the needs of several drivers, some have more unusual requirements and now flexible insurance is available for much shorter periods of time.
Temp auto insurance is often referred to as policies ranging from 1 to 28 days. However, now a few different insurance providers offer flexiblecover for between 1 to 6 months.
In addition pay-as-you-go options are now available allowing drivers to setup and manage their policy online. This gives the benefit of not having to pay for insurance when it won’t be needed.
There are many situations where 1 day insurance may be convenient. One is making sure you are insured when using a friends motor. Taking out an extra policy for this could protect any no claims bonus acquired. This could therefore be an attractive option for careful drivers who have not made a claim for years.
Temp insurance also allows insurance to be provided for additional drivers sharing the driving on holidays and other longer journeys.
Providing insurance for a foreign guest is a popular reason. As is requiring drive away cover after buying a second hand or new auto from a dealer. Taking out a test drive and requiring cover for a day or weekend can be another reason.
Several people who drive a van, don’t actually own one themselves. This is where one day car insurance can be very useful, if you are borrowing a van to move house or for other needs.
For bikers that are planning a summer road trip, short term car insurance could be a solution. This may prove economical if they use a car most of the year and will only be using the bike while they are away.
